The Age of Innocence…

Hello Darlings,

Some days are just filled with activities that one truly loves, such as shopping, reading and swimming. Today was one of those days for me!!!
After finally having the time to finishing Edith Wharton's The Age of Innocence and taking few minutes to skim through the book and write out my favorite quotes - yup, I have a journal where I write down all of my favorite quotes - I went on to start Fitzgerald's This Side of Paradise.

As for my thoughts on The Age of Innocence.....

Well, I simply loved it. However I love every classic that I read. I have a strong belief that classic literature can never be bad because it withstood the test of time. The Age of Innocence is the first novel by a woman to win the Pulitzer Prize, it exquisitely details the struggle between love and responsibility through the experiences of men and women in Gilded Age New York. Wharton's profound understanding of her character's lives makes the triangle of Archer, May and Ellen come to life with an irresistible urgency. A wry, incisive look at the ways in which love and emotion must negotiate the complex rules of high society. The book is wonderful read that provides a unique sense of the past society that shaped the famous New York city.
Speaking of of The Age of Innocence, I came across this quote that I found to be very amusing....

"Ah, well, Boston is more conservative than New York; but I always think it's safe rule for a lady to lay aside her French dresses for one season."
- Edith Wharton

It's amazing how quickly the times change, it was unfit for a lady to wear a new dress for at least a year, however now we wear things right of the racks and purchase our winter stuff in the summer and our summer stuff in the winter. Our times have become so rapid that the seasons no longer play any importance as the designers are producing their winter and resort collection in the spring/summer of the previous year. Everything nowadays is in such a rush. Everything is becoming like a fast food market - easy, fast and ready to go in 5 minutes! Is our world becoming too fast that even we can't catch up with it? Sometimes that's what it feels like...

As I went out to pick up few things for my Vegas Birthday weekend,I couldn't help but be frustrated at all of the boots and jackets that I came across. It is high 20s outside and I can't help but think of winter clothes... honestly, I even heard two women discussing their X-mas list. I mean come on, Christmas? This is becoming too depressing....it feels like everyone if getting too ahead of themselves. Can't we just relax, breathe and take 5 minute to just be?

Personally, I am one of those people that can find peace and calm in the middle of the of chaos. That perfect calm moment usually happens over a cup of espresso and a book...sometimes taking those minutes is all you need. When shopping with my mommy , we take 5 minutes to stop by Godiva and pick up Dark Chocolate Decadence-it became a tradition. Those 5 minutes is all you need to restart and reboot, and of course satisfy the sweet-tooth.

Speaking of winter and fall... I have found the most perfect pair of flat Kors boots, they are sooo awesome :) Totally excited about them! I know, I know.... I am getting ahead of myself, but I just couldn't pass by them when they were on a 65% off sale and I wanted them since last winter but couldn't justify spending $500 on a 5th pair of boots for that year. So I got them for this year... with a much better deal :)

I am wearing: dvb skinny flare jeans; E community top from Aritzia; Kimberly Baker Dove Necklace; Accessories& Beyond Bracellets in Gold; Michael Kors Heels; Gustto Cokera Purse; Chanel Sunglasses.

I wish you all a beautiful day!!!!

Out of the Box…

Hello Darlings,

I ordered these babies about a month ago and have been impatiently awaiting to get them out of the box. It finally happened....

I am wearing:Abercrombie& Fitch Sweater; C&C California Shorts; Kimberly Baker Dove Necklace; A.V.Max Cuff.

I absolutely adore them- very comfortable and perfect for the summer time. You'll definitely be seeing a lot of them.

Speaking of shopping, I also just scored these three amazing pieces on awesome sales :)

Graham& Spencer Beaded Silk Dress - I love the color and the simplicity.
Members Only Nylon Bomber - a perfect summer substitute for my leather jacket.
Armani Exchange Silk One Shoulder Ruffle Blouse in Regal - i love the color and it will be perfect both for everyday and going out.

Can't wait to see them.... I think the best and worst part of online shopping is the waiting.

Well, off I go to clean up my closet...

I wish you all a lovely Saturday!!!

Dinner Party…

Hello Darlings,

Getting dresses for dinner parties can be a pain. The idea of being over-dressed, under-dressed, too conservative, "too fashion forward", etc is pretty frightening, especially when meeting a new group of people. Well, this is what I was killing my head with on Saturday night... and this is what I came up with....
Dinner Party Neutrals
... I settled for what made me feel confident...the gray, black and a simple silhouette. This was definately not the time to experiment but mostly be comfortable in my own skin, especially since I can be a pretty shy when meeting new people.
I adore this simple dress... and pairing it with opaque tights seemed a bit bulky for this particular look so I decided on sheer black and a leather jacket.
I am wearing: Wilfred Dress;Calvin Klien tights; Mackage Leather Jacket;Michael Kors booties;A.V. Max Studded Gold Cuff; Kimberly Baker Dove Necklace.

Next time, I will definately try this dress with my hair up, to accentuate the deep cut. I always hate deciding on hair up or down... ugghh

Some of you are probably getting tired of all the gray that's been featured on this blog... but I just can't help myself I love it so much. I think that it is an awesome alternative to black, hehe....I am definately looking forward to Spring and bringing back some color into my life, although I really do love neutrals, hehe.

I am still working on my Spring "inspirations" and "to-buy list" ...I never thought that it was going to take this much time. Usually, anything and everything to do with shopping is pretty easy, but not this time... This whole planing thing is taking a lot out of me, hehe. It's coming, I promise...actually I think that I am going to break up " Spring inspiration" into multiple posts.

I would like to send out special thanks to freeTEYme and Nicole from The Wardrobe Chronicles for the amazing awards.

And of course, I send them out to all of the lovely bloggers. Thanks to everyone for the support and lovely comments/e-mails...It means the world to me :) Thank YOU.

I wish you all a lovely day!!!
With Love...
Marta

Ordinary…

Hello Darlings,
Well, today was an ordinary day... school, study... ooh yea, and babysitting my 5 year old cousin. He and I had a blast watching Transformers movie.

Aanyways, on to the important issues and posts coming up:
1) V-day
Enough said... Whats a girl to wear?
What are you planning on wearing ( if celebrating)?

2) Spring Wardrobe
Well, it is -20 and I am already planning out my spring wardrobe. Leather jacket was the starting point. Definitely something so post about...hehe

What do you think are this Spring essentials? What are you planning on buying?

3) Shopping on a Student Budget.
Over a certain period of time, I've received comments and e-mails asking" How can I afford/organize my wardrobe on a student budget?" I actually have quite a technique that works for me and does not require crazy amounts of money. So, I will definately make a post regarding that in the near future...I am actually really thrilled to do it.

If there's anything you would want me to talk about, do not hesitate to ask. I am always open to any questions/suggestions.

My Favorite Nook

Well, today's outfit was pretty simple...I was too lazy to be creative and really didn't want to go to my German class. One thing I've learned in University is DON'T START A LANGUAGE IN A UNIVERSITY. It will slowly murder you.... like German is murdering me now. But a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do....get a tutor ( as if 4 hour lectures are not enough)

But no serious damage done here.... A trip to Starbucks after class was all it took to make things better... And After a Grande Mocha and 3 chocolate cupcakes I was ready for homework, AGAIN.
I am wearing: YMC Socu Wool Cardigan Gap Pima Cotton Tee Corpus Skinnies in Ash Kimberly Baker Dove Necklace Michael Kors Booties
Sure, designers can make their " affordable" tees costing $100 but for me nothing beats GAP pima cotton tees with a little pocket. I have them in few colors. Not only are they soft... but are very flattering.

I bet many of you wonder... why do I always take picture in the same place.Well...
1) I hate taking pics in public... I'm kind of shy in that way.
2) It is like -20 outside.
3) I like taking pics in the privacy of my room with nobody's help. I just place my camera on a shelf and point towards my favorite nook. hehe... no fancy photography skills here.

Tip: If you live in cold climate ( like me) invest in a cute sweater that's warm and basic. Although I paid nearly $200 for this cardi... I've been wearing it non stop. Comfy, cute, super warm, and goes with about anything. It will work perfectly in the spring and fall. And because the quality is amazing and the cut is pretty classic it will probably last me a few winters.I really really love it, as well.

Anyways, back I go... I am writing a textbook review for my research. So not fun.

I wish you all an amazing day !!!

With Love...

Shades of Black & Grey…

Hello Darlings,

FS
Tag: In my4th folder I found this 4th photo - it always reminds me of ballet backstage. It must be the dresses that look like tutu

I would like to send out a huge thanks to Athena from Clothes Line Finds for an amazing award and this awesome tag.... Also, a large thanks goes out to Alissa from mmm, maryjane ( click to check it out) for featuring me in her posts :)

Thank you lovelies.
Your support means a lot to me.... :)

Shades of Black & Grey

When it comes to dressing.... I've come to realize that I fell the most comfortable in neutrals or pastels and usually don't to wear bright or loud colors(maybe during the summer)... Basically, minimalistic look is very appealing to me. I'm not sure if it is a phase or I have finally come to establish my personal style. Not sure, since I change my mind often but never when it comes to colors.... I love black, grey, white and beige.

Photobucket
I believe that color is not the only way to make an outfit exciting...although colorful accessories can make a dull outfit look fun.
Playing with textures and materials can make an outfit interesting and exciting.

To me, nothing is as important as paying attention to DETAILS... details is what matters ( to me). And this, I get from my mom.
Photobucket

Details such as proper fit, neat stitching, no stains/rips,clean and wrinkle-free ( I am always surprised to see how many people wear ripped or stained white tees).... Paying close attention to tiniest details makes an outfit look organized and neat.

Speaking of details,
My biggest fashion pet peeve is dirty shoes ( I understand salt stains, in the winter) -I mean, why would anyone want to "hurt" their shoes in such a way( by not cleaning themlol). Personally, I love and cherish my shoes like treasure and want to keep them looking new forever and ever, lol.

Photobucket

I Love: Wearing bracellets/cuffs over simple cashmere gloves... just to add some interest to a winter outfit. It looks cute... just keep it simple.

As well, I've always loved matching my gloves to my purse...lol.Weird?
Photobucket
I am wearing:
Language Los Angeles Tunic
American Apparel Disco Pants
Soai & Kyo Annisa - Z Wool Coat
Portolano Cashmere Gloves in Eggplant
Accessories & Beyond Elastic Bracelet Set in Black & Gold
Kimberly Baker Dove Necklace
Regina Italia Handmade Italian Leather Bag in Plum
Juicy Couture Leather Boots
Photobucket
Exciting: Today was very exciting for me, I finally purchased something that I've been looking for since the fall and it is definately one of my biggest buys of this year.... I can't wait to it share with you. I am really excited about this purchase. Any guesses as to what it is?

P.S. Thank you for your comments on the T by by Alexander Wang... I was just curious to find out others opinions. Although, I agree that the price is steep, I must admit that I am not that impresses with the collection - the dresses remind me of night gowns, but I guess it all depends on the fit. But I am curious to find out, if the quality and fit is what makes these item expensive, since the materials are "not my favorite" nor are the items original in cuts.Hhhhmmmm......

I wish you all a lovely day...weekend is almost here!!!

With Love...
Marta

Celebration ….:)

Hello Lovelies,

( My mommy and I ... she's the greatest)

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend ... I sure did.I must admit that I had a perfect birthday... with the people I love the most.I didn't want a big party but just to spend some intimate time with my loved ones.

( photos I took at the beach while reading a book... the sunset was breathtaking)

I spend most of my time with Andrew ( him and I really are inseparable, lol) at the cottage... during the day we launched by the beach and during the night we partied with friends. We came back from the cottage on Monday ( on my birthday) and had a beautiful dinner with my parents .... and today, we went out for some awesome Japanese food in the cuttest/posh area of Toronto. So a four day celebration is not sooo bad ... lol.

Andrew's lobster is on fire, lol .... the dinner was so much fun. Although, this was not our fist time there, it's always fun to go back :)

However, the saddest part was not having my best friend by my side, who's just moved to France to study(for only a year, thank goodness) ... or the rest of my family who is in Ukraine. I am not sure if I mentioned before but I was born and raised in Ukraine and usually go back there every summer.... but talking to them on the phone for hours made me feel much better. I always get sad around special occasion...because they are not here with me.

As for an outfit....

I decided to wear my new Maggie Ward Dress ....

I am wearing:
Chix Dress by Maggie Ward
BCBG Max Azria Tuxedo Blazer
Michael Kors Ankle Boots
A.V. Max New York Cuff
Kimberly Baker Jewelry Necklace
Gold Flower Earing - a family jewel.

Gifts Time

As for my gift, I received a beautiful Canon Camera and accessories from Andrew, it's super tiny and pink ....

.... he always gives the greatest gift ever.

My parents got me a day at the spa,a super cute scarf, make up, and re-decorated my room including my closet ( I was so shocked) and of course lots of Godiva chocolate (my fav.) and I got Dior goodies from my best friend and more Godiva..... and lots of Birthday cards from family and friends in Ukraine. Thank you all for such a wonderful birthday :) Lots of love .... MWAH

I would also like to thank all of you for Wishing me a Happy Birthday, it made my day even more special.... THANK YOU :)

P.S. I get asked a lot about my high ... and I will admit that I am only 5'7 feet or around 173 cm.
