Modern Dilemma of Flares…
Hello Darlings,
I just had a day of successful shopping, and rediscovered my love for Burberry flares and scored two pieces from Wilfred’s Little Moon line. It’s amazing how little I need to feel a huge amount of happiness
Just kidding, but it is true the smallest things make me ridiculously happy. Such as hearing the perfect song on the radio, finding a cute new cafe, and of course to spend time with family and friends.

I am having a love / hate relationship with flares. Some days I really love them and then there are other days… On the days when I adore them, I can’t help but gush to my mom about how awesome they fit. However, there are days that I can’t help but toss them to the back of my closet. Why, you might ask?
I have absolutely no idea why I feel soo dramatic about them… but at times flares seem to me a bit outdated and decadent. What do you say… love or hate the idea of flares?
I also would like to share my new 2 carat black& white diamond necklace courtesy of ICE.com jewelers. The necklace is exquisite and elegant. Thank you Emily
And for my darling readers, ICE.com is offering up to 75% off the 10 items in Summer Styles section, as well as 20% off of all of ICE.com jewelry by using FBSS2 at the checkout or using this link, click here!
Returning to my dilemma over flares, the main issues are getting the proportions right and balancing flares with heels or wedges. Here are professional suggestions from Nina Garcia’s The One Hundred:
Only wear wide-legged styles with something fitted on top, to balance the bulk on the bottom.
Leave the hemline a little long—too short is not a good look.
A flat front is more flattering than pleats.
Be careful of pocket placement— no flaps on your hips, it will widen instead of slim your hips.

I have the same sort of love/hate relationship with flares. They can be so refreshing after too many skinnies, and definitely very comfortable. I think the “hate” part of flare comes with the season, or at least for me it does. I’m not too fond of flares in the winter. It just conjures up thoughts of jeans that are all wet at the bottom, ick. I don’t really like flares in the winter - feels kinda tacky to me! I love flares in the summer though or when the weather is warm. I think the last time I saw you in flares on your blog was last summer!
I like flares as long as they aren’t too big. These jean/trousers are just right in my opinion. They look fabulous on you!
As long as you love them some days, that’s fine! You don’t have to want to wear the same thing every day. That’s boring!
I live flares when they are not too “flared”. I have always preferred them to skinnies, and I am really glad they are coming back!
Sexy! I hate flares on me (I’m way too short) but they look great on you!
ahhh I adore those jeans! I do like flare, I dont get all the hate! the problem for me… my torso is longer than my legs and Im short so many things make me look short =( finding a for good pair of jeans is a real challenge for me!
I like flares like the ones you’re wearing, but not on me. I don’t know why, but I somehow feel more secure with skinny/straight legs. It looks great on you though (that first picture gives you reaaally long legs), wish I could pull it off!
That necklace is gorgeous! And have you changed your hair color? It looks lovely! As for flares, I like ‘em
Mmh I think that Flares timeless-ly tend to epitomize a certain idea of “Urban CHIC-issime coolness / -itude”, AND Here especially like the way they subtly unveil your bloody polished toes . . .
ps: The contrast pale skin / flaming hair is “Vavavoooooom-issime” Dear Marta !!!
à Bientôt, Antoine
I really like the look of flares, and your look really cool on you. You look stunning.
As soon as my legs/bum look like yours I am so getting a pair of jeans like this! You look absolutely gorgeous and I adore the very first picture. x
Jesus! Those legs make your legs look miles long. I have a pair of flares that I’m not sure what to do with either, but I might just have them tailored to a straight leg because I adore the hard to find high rise too much.
Love those flares on you they look great. I definitely feel the same way about them as you! I think some people can pull them off and others can’t, but you are definitely one who can.
I definitely can’t pull off flares because of my bigger thighs, but they look amazing on you Marta! You actually look really fashion forward as I am sure they become outrageously trendy again very soon! Also, your hair looks really great! So few people can rock the bright red like you do
have a great week!
Jen
Very nice, one more time. Très chic pour une paire de jeans ! On aime !
i love flares, wide leg high waisted jeans, i always think they look classy espically with a nice wedge i think it goes perfectly!! i love your outfit too, your hair is stunning!
PS. you must check out chanels spring.summer ’10 line to fall in love with clogs like i did <3!!

I forgot how much I love flares until this post. I need to dig mine out too. And I know I’m going to sound like a creep, but your butt looks awesome.
I love/hate them too, but then again I love/hate skinny jeans too. It depends, I dunno. Some days i like them, some days I don’t. I do like how you’re wearing them though. It’s so simple, yet so pretty.
I personally like boot cut jeans as they flatter my figure, but I think that you rock the flared jeans! Regarding the trend, I think it depends on the type of person who is wearing flared jeans; if they don’t look confident wearing them, it doesn’t really work.
Kisses,
Stephanie
I’ve recently just gone through your blog, reading all the posts I’ve missed! I love and admire how well you’re handling the breakup and period of mishaps - you’re so positive, and this “new” you is amazing! The hair! I love it!
I’ve just recently launched my new website and blog, A Bit Coquettish. After 2 years at La Couturier, I’ve [finally!] dropped my guise of anonymity - take a peek? (;

i prefer skinny jeans, but i still love flares! they look fantastic especially if you wear heels. you look great in them
I’m definitely a straight leg girl. Flares tend to overwhelm my short frame!
Those flares look amazing on you! I’m suddenly feeling inspired to break mine out again.
You look really amazing in it! sigh. I wish I could pull it off like you do. It’s so hard to find a fitted pair of any kind of jeans. I do agree with having the love/hate relationship with flares. I also think is because I haven’t found the perfect one for me. I do want to have at least one pair of wide leg/flare type of jeans or pants, I think it will come handy in my wardrobe. Thanks for sharing the style tip
Marta, these jeans looks GORGEOUS on you! You are stunning in them. I love them with sky high shoes in Spring, Summer and early Fall… just like the comment above, I believe they can be a mess in Winter. I like them best with a tight, simple top, too, just as you have on now. Lovely, lovely…
Hope you had a great weekend*
xoxo
Those pants are super cute! I adore them =)
And that house in the first picture is magnificent as well!
Love the flares on you, hate them on me! I’m too short and my hips are pretty wide (not much but I’m not thin enough so flares look good on me). I think you have to be very careful how you wear flares or they might be… tacky. But don’t worry, it’s totally not your case
xx
By the way! I just noticed your nails are red! I think that time ago you said you might give them a try although you had never worn red… Congratulations for the step!
Hi Anna,
I did give them a try and love it! I can’t stop wearing red nails, they just add the most perfect touch of color!

These are such beautiful pictures of you.
I have a love/hate relationship with flares too. I think what bugs me the most is the uncertainty of the length and what kind of shoe to wear : /
i wish to have some diamond necklace but they are quite expensive “;”
