Hello Darlings,
Today was spent in the library killing my head with French, honestly all that I can say is do not start a language in a university. It really does take too much time from the rest of the work. Anyways, moving on…. following my grueling study session and an exam, it was all about Halloween costume hunt! And yep, I found myself a costume! So excited
I love dressing up, I am such a kid at heart.

Getting to the point…because I can ramble for hours
I always receive a lot of e-mails about two of my Mackage jackets which I am always happy to answer each individually. However, I decided to make a general post just in case others are curious or do not feel comfortable e-mailing ( although I really do love getting e-mails from you!)
The most common questions are regarding size, quality, etc and maintenance:
- The post on Macakge sizing, quality, etc is here!
As for maintenance, I am about to cover it in this one. Since I am no leather expert and I ALWAYS leave it to one. I did do some research, as I always research everything…. I am a research Nazi
And have comprised some of the expert advice that I personally follow. It is important to do some research before going out to pick up a leather jacket. Following the purchase it is essential that you know how to care for it. Personally, I am a HUGE fan of Mackage and have had extraordinary experiences with their outerwear. I’ve been wearing my leather baby everyday non-stop ( including travel) and it still looks NEW… If that’s not quality then I am not sure what is!
The key point is do research and see what other are saying about the brand! It is always a good idea to hear from those who actually have the experience with the merchandise .
This garment is a luxury item made of fine and delicate fabric. With proper care, the unique qualities of this material will be maintained for years. - Mackage
And I couldn’t agree more, with care and regular maintenance… your jacket will serve you a long time!
Here are some suggestions:
BEFORE COMMITTING:
- Buy from reputable brand.
- Make sure that the texture and color are even.
- Avoid a tight-fitting style.
- Read labels and tags.
- Nubuck leathers stain and fade rapidly.
AFTER
- Safe the tags and labels
- Always hang your garments on shaped or padded hangers.
- Hang with closures zipped and buttoned.
- Do not let it get to dirty before getting it cleaned.
- Do not store in a plastic bag in order not to dry skins.
- Do not use shoe creams on it. If you do use some sort of cream, double check with your trusty cleaner
- Go to a professional suede or leather cleaner.
- Advice the cleaner of any stains/damages.
- All fastening devices must be removed or covered!
Love your coat and take good care of it!
Mackage recommends Suedart! Personally, I have yet to find a cleaner…I am so nervous! Does anyone know any good leather specialist in Toronto?
I love the little hearts on the gloves... including the charm with the logo. I know I am obsessive about details.
As for today’s outfit… it was all about comfort and practicality. Since I had a long day ahead of me and the weather was quite unpredictable, I settled for a cozy outfit. Bulky sweater ( do wear a light cute top underneath in case you do start to feel hot indoors) and my all time favorite disco pants, and Kors boots. And finally took out my very much adored Moschino gloves. I am not the one to wear a lot of jewelry or accessories, so the headband and gloves are cute little details. However, I am really obsessed about my details matching: the gold headband matches my gold details on the boots, purse and bracelets. For me it is all about details, details, and details!
I am wearing: Gap Wood Sweater; American Apparel Disco Pants; Mackage Leane Leather Jacket; Michael Kors Eagle Boots; Moschino Suede Gloves;Gustto Cokera Leather Purse; Accessories & Beyond Gold Elastic Bracellets; Aldo Accessories Jewel Headband.
I hope that this post has helped even just a tiny bit! I know that jackets are a big “investment” and you want to make the best choice and then to be able to care for it in the best way possible. If you, lovelies, have anymore questions do not hesitate to drop me a line
Nothing compares to the beauty of Canadian autumn... it is my favorite time of the year, well and X-mas!
As for now I am off to chat with some friends regarding Halloween plans…. If it is not a secret, WHAT ARE YOU DRESSING UP AS FOR HALLOWEEN? WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS?
I’m wishing you a beautiful day!
With Love…
Marta

My boyfriend and I are going to be Al & Peg Bundy from Married With Children! Happy Halloween!
You look just perfect! So nice fall outfit!
OOoooh ce serait vraiment un plaisir de t’apporter mon “cyber soutien” en Français chère Martha !!!
ps: Mmmh Actually I really like the fact that “dark leather” gladly rhymes with “electrifying texture” . . .
à Bientôt, Antoine
Those gloves are just AMAZING!

Thanks for the post, Marta!
Greatly appreciated!
I love Autumn and Christmas as well… and have always loved the fact that my birthday is in October, and 5 days before Hallowe’en (which, btw.. I love to dress up for, too!). I also like Spring though, because it always feels so fresh and full of promise. Anywayyyy.. lol
Hey Marta! It was nice seeing you in class today [well it's 12:50 am, so technically yesterday]! You’re even prettier in real life! Anyways, side note, I think we live near each other.. or something. LOL. I KNOW THAT PETIT WATERFALL! I walk over that bridge everyday to get onto islington and head to the station. We’re Etobicoke buddies aren’t we? haha..what a conincidence.
Fashion for the most part is nothing but the ostentation of riches.
Great outfit!
And those boots and gloves are just too good to be true
P.S. french is the most difficult language as far as I can say, good luck with the exam!
Your outfit… the backdrop.. screams perfection!
What I can say about leather is that it looks good in any condition as long as it’s not torn. Because it’s leather. Even if you don’t look after it at all (here I am talking good quality leather) you will get tired of it before it will wear out. My mum told me these years and years ago - her leather coats and jackets are still there, looking good, bought, well, about 20-25 years ago.
A couple of things I have to mention, though. NEVER wear light leather jackets and jeans. EVER. Or use fabric handbags, particularly, if the fabric is denim. Even if those jeans or a bag are old and used and you think that the colour would never ever transfer into your jacket, it will be a nasty surprise to discover that it will… I made this mistake once and my cream leather turned blue. Thankfully, it only happenes to the very botton of the sleeves and inside the jacket, but still, it wasn’t nice…
The good news is that ANY good dry-cleaners will be able to remove it 100%.
Talking of the professional dry cleaners. I’ve tried several and to be honest, all of them are good. If you feel nervous, then give them something simple to clean and see how they deal with it. Then you know you can trust them your precious things, too.
And for those, who want to give leather extra care, there are special sprays available in good boutiques. You spray your jackets, bags or shoes once every month or so, depending on how often you use them, and the coat protects them from rain and dirt.
Have a great Halloween weekend! Can’t wait to see your costume!

Great outfit and I love the pictures. Fall makes for such good outdoor pics. FYI I passed along an award to you: http://fashiontherapist.blogspot.com/2009/10/welcome-to-chicago-zara.html
Hey!

Oh my Goodness!!! I feel terrible!!!!
I am SOOOO SORRY! I didn’t notice the English part! Please accept my apology as your English is beautiful.Once again, I do apologize and looking forward toward more of your posts.
This picture is just lovely of you, have fun dressing up this weekend!
Marta — you look so pretty — I love how the details really make this outfit /
the boot buttons, gloves, bags, and especially that sweet headband
Great tips on leather care + purchasing. I have a beautiful, camel colored
leather coat, with ruffles, and someone spilled coffee all over it! I was so upset,
I nearly cried. However, my Mom fixed it up with Restoration Hardware’s leather
cleaner + conditioner. I didn’t remove the staining, but it blended it, and
gave the jacket a vintage feel. Not the same jacket I bought, but that’s okay.
Hope you have a fun weekend, Miss Marta

Love your gloves. I am really into the details like that too. So cute! xoxo

[...] It is perfection….and on sale from $ 1,300 for $350. I've wanted this Mike & Chris jacket for the longest time ( it's the hood that made me fall in love) but could not afford it, that is until yesterday It is a very casual substitute for my beloved Mackage. [...]
