A week or two ago, I did an interview with Sonya Bell from Canadian Press on Twilight and it’s influences on make-up and appearance trends.

Twilight franchise takes bite our of bronzer as youth get ghostly.
I am curious to find out what is your opinion on this topic….personally, I was very fascinated by the thought.
P.S. I just got home few hours ago. As soon as I unpack and check my lecture schedule ( I start tomorrow), I will be back with more pictures from my New York adventures

I’m proud to say I’ve always disliked getting tanned even before this ‘pale is cool’ craze. Tanning is really not healthy, and I don’t understand why people say tanned skin gives you a glow… it just never worked for me. I dislike even more those bronzing lotions. Yuck. I’m not super pale, but I like to keep what skin colour I have in the colour it was in. hehe
I’m so glad if the pale thing is “in”. The pasty redhead in me has been waiting for this day for ages!
I dont know if I will be sporting the glitter/ pale look haha pale just looks so good on certain people (and good for them) I love redheads who have really fair skin, I think its so beautiful.. but on me? I look like death and not the hot-robert-pattinson-death..

. Well, when it comes to “Twilight” - I always thought of pale skin as my most proudest possession. If you take a careful look at the history of fashion, you will find that t pale skin was always a sign of nobility, “blue blood” so do speak. Ladies always tryed to protect it from damaging sun and took a great care of it.Being tanned always was thought of as being “low class”.I could never understand modern day obsession with being tanned. Preoccupation with fake tanning is even more incomprehensible to me. I never thought that women will flaunt their sun damaged skin as something beautiful. I hope I do not sound to categorical, but to me intentional and deliberate tanning to make skin look darker damaging it in the process, aging it is the same as smoking cigarette after gym - does not make any sense.
Anya, I read that somewhere as well during my research as to why many of my family (who are very old-fashioned and traditional) disliked tanned skin. Tanned skin meant that you had to go out and work for a living -in the old days, labour was mostly in farms and fields… planting and harvesting crops. It’s easy to see why tanned skin would have been a less-than-desirable condition.
as much as i would like to see twilight take over the world, i highly doubt that the movie is reason for the drop in bronzer sales. i think it’s more an overall effect. the look on the red carpet and on the runways is natural and pale. now, if this has something to do with the rise in vampire book sales, who knows? i’m choosing to believe that the world is finally getting ok with the way they look.
and i’m with all you ladies, pale is soooo much better, plus, skin cancer is super uncool.
Interesting article! I love when people are able to embrace their natural skin tone; but again, those who are naturally pale are white. It’s not really fair for someone with naturally darker skin to, yet again, give the message that pale is beautiful. For so many dark-skinned girls even who have been living in Canada or the US for their whole lives, it is still a taboo to get tanned and have darker skin. Those who are born with darker skin, sadly, are branded with being “dark” their entire lives, and it really takes a toll on them. I know this is highly prevalent in the Indian / Pakistani community, where a girl is seen beautiful because she is fair. I just hope this fair skin trend doesn’t further this sort of negativity.
Very interesting. I think that this trend is good, because I like pale skin and it will encourage people not to go to tanning beds.. but I strongly dislike the Twilight fad. I don’t think that the movies or books are anything special. I read the books and liked them, but easily forgot about them after only a week after reading them. I don’t think that Twilight deserves the phenomenon that it has caused. The books are okay, but not worthy of this much fame. Harry Potter, on the other hand, is absolutely amazing and stunningly written.
But anyways, this was about make-up! Not the books, hahha.
