Hello Darlings,
Some women dress in such extremes they represent everything that I adore - feminine, simple, gutsy, sensual and classy - she’s comfortable in her own skin and knows that she’s fabulous.
But is it Fabulous or Selfish???
I admire women who to dress impress everyday. Women who don’t seek man’s attention by what she wears, and exude confidence and sensuality that bedazzles. But people often so judgmental that you’re dressing to make some kind of statement.
Seriously… why is it that when a woman dresses to impress, men assume it’s for them. Or, women often chime in that she’s being an “attention whore”. Why can’t a woman dress to impress just for herself? Is it ever wrong for a woman to wear stilettos and be perfectly polished, just to feel fabulous? Is it ridiculous to consider this selfish?
Well, if it is selfish … then I want to be the most selfish person on the planet.
There’s nothing wrong with a woman dressing up and feeling pretty.
Being Fabulous is part of our nature and there’s no need to downplay it!
My fabulous of the “moment” are definitely loose trousers. I also love the simplicity with great details. More current favorites are: leather jackets, simple white shirts, structured coats with great details (ex. amazing buttons), and of course, wayfarers!
As seen on the runways, it is all in the details for Spring 2009 including: sexy but pretty shoes, leather gloves, zippers, cuffs, bows, clutches, and neat nails!
Being a girl is so much fun! So what are we waiting for? Dress so you feel wonderful, spoil yourself because you deserve it, love yourself because you’re gorgeous and be confident because you’re one of a kind.
Now put on your cutest pair of shoes and ladies enjoy being fabulous !!!
Forget men and others, just be fabulous for yourself !!!!

Love it Marta! You hit the nail on the head for me! I am an “every day heels” kinda girl, and it’s for me, and no one else’s opinion matters to me more than looking good feels. I feel the way we dress presents an image about our self to others, and I want to be taken serious- professionally, and also as a woman and not a sexual object. Way to voice the thoughts that so many of us fashion conscious women are already thinking! You are an inspiration
Marta, I agree 100%…I get the comment “oh my, are you going on the runway?” or my fav: “why are you so dressed up?” I loath lulu lemon (sorry lulu fans) as daywear and I refuse to care what others think of me. If you want to wear heels and a dress, do it! Sport what you love…Fashion should be worn everyday and celebrated everyday

I’ve been following your blog for awhile, i love toronto fashion blogs! Anyways, I strongly felt the need to comment on this post because it is absolutely fabulous and amazing!!
Especially in our twenties, when we’re trying to find our own fashion skin, it’s so hard to do so with the pressure of every single girl wearing uggs and carrying a lululemon. but thanks for your post, it def. gave me so enlightenment, and so tmrw, i will let down my hair, put on that red wool coat, and dress FABULOUSSS!!

I absolutely agree with you. Sometimes, just breaking the mold and dressing up for a change, especially at University, sparks so much rage in other people that it starts to make you feel uncomfortable and believe that there is something “wrong” with the way you’re dressing. I disagree with this, as women should be able to wear anything that they feel comfortable in, whether it be a pair of really sexy heels or just combat boots without the disapproving stare of other women. Everyone should be able to express their unique style without feeling judged and beaten down upon!

yes, marta! i totally agree! why is it that when we were kids we wanted to dress like fairies and princesses every day, but when we get older we resign ourselves to uggs-and-leggings uniforms?

I completely agree. Fabulous post.
In my home town in Australia people are so quick to judge based on what you are wearing. I love to dress up and look fabulous. I like putting in effort and I feel wonderful- but this is purely for my benefit. I do not do it to impress men (ugh, and I can’t stand when men think it is all for them) and the females can be so rude just because you like to look your best and you have the confidence to pull anything off.
It is not selfish at all. If people have a problem with it then they must have a pretty miserable life if they are affected by what a person wears.
I have had that problem in my past I have been “too confident” for some friends..
You shouldn’t dim your light just because someone else has a problem with it.

My friends on college ware all sneakers, ordinary tshirts and jeans. There are only a few girls that loves to “overdressed”, im one of them. I have no problems with it, but other people had.
. And this is weird for them.

Sure I have days too when I dont like overdressing, then I ware my sneakers, jeans and a cute sweather. But, I dont think that guys think that we dress for them. Girls do that. They think we want the attention of the guys. Surely, i like attention. I like when somebody notice me, but this is not my nb. 1 priority, and i dress for the feeling that my clothes gave me.

once my friend said to me, “Why are you dressed up? There’s no one here to impress. It’s kind of a waste of a good outfit.”
I just simply told her that I dress for myself, to make ME happy, not anyone else. I don’t think about other people when I get dressed. I think about me, what I like, and what makes me happy and comfortable.

SERIOUSLY? ugh. it bothers me SO much. it’s like they’re trying to be all sexy with their heels (at school, which I find inappropriate for high schoolers) but then they wear sweats with it .. ughsjkdhfas.
