Hello Darlings, Loafers are an American classic, albeit the history of the moccasin-style traces back to handmade shoes made by Norwegian fisherman during their off-season. In the mid-1930′s, American tourists brought their “discovery” across the Atlantic - and just like blue jeans and trench coats - loafers have since become an American classic and a preppy cliché.

Loafers have been a must-have for men for generations, however less so for women through the years. That was until a few seasons ago when loafers gained prominence as a style on the global fashion circuit. Similar to the 1970s, when Gucci took this modest style and turned into a playboys “it” shoe made out of luxurious leather and with a gleaming Gucci logo - in recent years loafers have become on-trend and a fashion must-have for all styles of women.

Surface to Air and Marc by Marc Jacobs loafers

For a girl who adores ballerina flats, loafers have become one of my favorite alternatives. First came my leopard print loafers from Steve Madden. Next up was my Surface to Air croc pair, and now my third pair are the ones in these photos from Marc Jacobs. In comparison to ballerinas, loafers are more practical for rainy days and perfect for travel. Ballerinas are for summer and loafers, while loafers are the perfect spring to summer seasonal transition shoe!

Curious to know, do you own or plan to buy loafers?
