Hello Darlings, I received the below sweet message on my Linked In from a reader. I love hearing that my writing connects with and inspires people! Jonathan sent a follow up message asking “How to Grow Traffic” on his DigitalOpenConcept blog, so I thought to share with everyone my insights.

“Marta, although I don’t fit within your target, I’m still a fan. Your blog actually inspired me to pursue a blog of my own. Keep up the great job and doing your own thing.”

Variety Lounge

The bad news is there is no magic solution to quickly grow your blog audience. First and foremost, you should always write because YOU WANT TO. The most important thing is that your articles connect with and inspire readers - and if you aren’t 100% genuine in your writing, then almost surely it will be obvious - and as the saying goes “content is king”.

Variety Lounge sponsored by Moroccanoil

Moroccanoil sponsored the Variety Lounge, and if your blog audience grows one big perk is receiving fabulous products… but my advice is NEVER blog just to receive free stuff.

The good news is that when you have good things to write about, there are some tricks that do help to grow your audience. Below is a list, in my perceived order of importance:

1 - write about things people want to read (most important by far)

2 - write for yourself, not for the reader (this will make sense why when you write…)

3 - make sure to include appealing images (most people read blogs for entertainment)

4 - make sure to “tag” everything well, so your articles get indexed by search engines (SEO)

5 - link-building helps build your SEO rank (ie - ask other bloggers to be included in their “blogroll”)

6 - have a facebook & twitter to post links when you publish an article

7 - participate in forums where people write about the same topics as you

8 - participate at conferences with like-minded bloggers

Adrian Grenier at TIFF

Adrian Grenier together with his movie producers also at the Variety Lounge during TIFF being interviewed about their new movie.

Social media is evolving fast. While social media and blogging are different, there is a connection since they are doing two similar things: (1) entertaining readers (2) distributing information. So it’s good to understand the dynamics of how social media platforms function (ie - facebook, twitter, pinterest, etc.) and how you can use each to complement your blogging efforts. This is a long story… so I will write another post on this topic!

Naomi Watts at Variety Lounge

Very cool that Variety Magazine thought my WithLoveGabrielle.com blog mattered enough to have me do a photo shoot in the same seat as actress Naomi Watts and publish them: http://on-msn.com/UftND5

Curious to hear how many people this “Connected With”

Please let me know!!

With Love…

Marta
