Belated Valentine….
Hello Darlings,
Saint Valentine’s Day, although I do not love it nor hate it, I think that it is one day when you’re totally expected to be overtly cheesy. I do not like the idea of expecting grand romantic gestures from your sweetheart because that is what the rest of the world is doing. However, I do think that Valentine’s Day is awesome, as it presents an opportunity for couples to spend that extra time together and do something that is more “special”.
Romance…sure! But I still prefer the idea of fun over the idea of total lovey-dovey, overly-cheesy romance...
...But then again, it might just be because I am 21 and fun is part of my life equation. Andrew and I spent the Valentine’s weekend at Niagara Falls, as it is one of my favorite places and because I’ve never seen Niagara Falls in the winter time. Our weekend was filled with dinners overlooking the falls, gambling, strolling around (out and indoors) and of course party hardy 
Yes, Andrew and I are one of those couples that can totally go clubbing on our own just for the fun of it.
One of my absolutely favorite things was having our hotel connected to everything….restaurants, casino, bars, night club, and if you need it a wedding chapel (hahha…who needs to go to Vegas, when Niagara is right there?). Not having to step a foot outside when a snow storm is happening is actually quite an intriguing idea, since I do live in Canada.
Not having to step outside, meant that I could wear my new Mike& Chris jacket without getting a frost bite. I can’t wait for spring to come around, so I can finally wear my favorite ballerinas and leather jackets. I say the same thing in the summer, I can’t wait for winter and to have a fabulous chance to layer everything: P (I might be the only one who thinks that way but I do love winters).
I am wearing: Alexander Wang (from Bluefly); Mike& Hooded Leather Jacket (from Holt Renfrew Last Call); American Apparel Pin Dots Pantyhose (American Apparel Sherway); Tiffany&Co. Key Necklace (gift from Andrew); Diamond Studs(gift from parents); A.V. Max Cuff (from Bluefly); Davis by Ruthie Davis Swarovski embellished heels (from Revolve Forward).
Since it was V-day, aka You- Must- Wear- Pink- or- Red- or- Hearts Day, I decided to take the opportunity and wear my ABSOLUTE favorite Alexander Wang dress. I’ve been on a mission to find a substitute for this dress (so I can rotate my obsessive- wearing habits) but still no luck.
I just love love love it x a billion= lots and lots of love! The way it makes me feel is hard to describe, but in it I feel like a sex kitten— so embarrassed for using this word, but I can’t think of another. Forgive me for being so lame: P I paired my favorite dress with a pair of American Apparel polka- dot tights, which I must admit are not worth spending $40 on. The color is not very even and it took a lot of adjusting to take it seem normal. This is too high of a price for a pair that is not high quality! (Which I had hoped for them to be) I wish I could return them (they have no refund policy on hosiery). Although I am used to spending lots of money on great hosiery, as it is one of those “my look” things. I want my hosiery to be smooth and perfect! The only thing that I do like about the American Apparel purchase / tights/ hosiery, etc. is that they are thicker than (something). This is also the reason the color does not go on evenly and takes lots of adjusting and stretching around. I say spare yourself the frustration and go for another pair. Meanwhile, I will continue to torture myself with them until they finally rip. For $40, I might as well wear them to university. My hosiery does not last a whole day there. This is also a reason I carry around another pair.
TIP: If you’re wearing thinner pantyhose bring a spare, you do not want to be stuck with a run in a panty hose; that just looks sloppy. This is especially the case when you’re going out!
Well, I am going to spare you another page of ranting…as I must fetch myself another double espresso and go back to studying. I have over 10 assignments/midterms in these two weeks…post-car accident deferred exams are not fun (they are brutal!). Wish me luck, hopefully I will come out happy and smiling, because right now I am a total nut case: P Two down Ten more to go!!! YAY! So please bare with me, it takes me much longer to respond to comments/e-mails during such times!!! You guys are fabulous!!!

yeah, valentines day just doesn’t do it for me…the hubby and i ate a big breakfast in our pj’s…but that was about it. not a big deal, loving someone should be a daily thing…but i can see how it’s fun to play it up, i dig it.

Marta, you look absolutely stunning!! Your look is simply perfect.
I love Valentine’s Day with a passion, but I very much agree that love should not be shown only on this day. I really dislike how our consumerist culture brainwashes people to think that way. Red is my favourite colour, and pink a close second… but seeing it everywhere in the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day can really put me off. Love is not made up of reds and pinks.
I couldn’t help noticing ralphie’s comment. I am absolutely not siding with him/her, but when my beau saw me wearing that dress, he actually did tell me that he felt that I was showing a little too much cleavage. Now, I chalk that up to the fact that my bosom is a bit on the heavy side for my height… (5 ft. 3 and 1/2 in.) I’ve had people asking me before if I had a boob job done, which was very weird. Now, I’m very much aware that I can’t get away with a lot on top because of that. One dress may look trampy on someone, but it may look classy and elegant on someone else. I think ralphie ought to realise that everyone has different standards when it comes to dressing. Remember ages ago when our great-great-grandmothers thought showing ankles were indecent? We might not get along very well with them if we were to meet today…
As for you being obnoxious, I simply cannot see that.

There’s nothing wrong with cheesy-ness. It seems like you have a great life with great people, but some other are really hustling right now. I am talking about cheesy when it is done out of expectation and it is not necessarily genuine but rather generic. I do not believe that a person needs to wait until Valentine’s day to show those feelings an this is not something that I need to get over, it is something that I felt for a long time. Niagara Falls in winter is beautiful! I went there as part of my travels. Its was the coldest I was ever on trip but a real experience. Even went up the tower and saw the entire niagara falls from way up high
I idid however find the lights and wildly decorated venues ect slightly garish and tacky but it is a gambling area.
